ManagementPhotos 7

Here, we share photos submitted to us by pupil transporters throughout the country that were featured in the Snapshots department of our March 2013, June 2013 and July 2013 issues.

The transportation staff at Onslow County School System in Jacksonville, N.C., got into the holiday spirit for their annual Christmas card photo. Transportation Coordinator Angelo Caputo (far left, in the white shirt) said that the team has gathered for a Christmas card photo since he joined the district. Caputo, whose last day with the district was Dec. 20, as he returned to school full time, also said that the transportation staff organizes a Secret Santa gift exchange. “Our schools have ‘giving trees’ during the holidays, and this year [in 2012], about half of our drivers got gifts for the schools,” he added.

Edward Eiting, supervisor of safety training and recruiting for Hampton (Va.) City Schools, submitted this photo of a 1934 Dodge Bros. school bus. Eiting says the bus’ engine still runs, and the bus is on view at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke.

Bill Lawther, a substitute school bus driver for Revere Local Schools in Richfield, Ohio, submitted this photo of one of the district’s buses “coming to life” early one morning last winter.

Bus drivers at Mother Lode Union School District in Placerville, Calif., were greeted by this rainbow in the district’s bus yard following the first rainstorm in the area last fall. Photo submitted by Transportation Director Andrew Peters.

Betty Brennan from Clear Creek Independent School District in League City, Texas, submitted this photo of the Space Shuttle Endeavor flying over her operation on its way to Los Angeles for its last trip. Brennan says she snapped the photo from the back of her school bus.

This bus is carrying some extra (if light) cargo! School bus driver Jennie Golden snapped this photo of a katydid on a bus as she was walking into her operation's transportation facility. Golden works for Sanders (Ariz.) Unified School District #18.

Inspector J. Valley from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Vehicle Safety and Compliance Service found this bird’s nest while performing a bus inspection. The bus was a spare in the fleet at Whittier Vocational Technical High School in Haverhill, Mass. The nest was left there until the eggs hatched and the birds left the nest.
