These photos show the development of the fifth transportation center for Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (ISD) in Houston.

The transportation center also has 24,900 square feet for school bus repair and body shops, 11,040 square feet for fueling and bus washing, and 120,000 square feet for covered bus parking.

School buses and staff moved in on March 28. The new center has covered parking spaces for 200 buses and uncovered spaces for another 50 buses. Cypress-Fairbanks ISD operates a total of 742 route buses.

Powell says that the district's new fifth transportation center has alleviated overcrowding at the other four facilities. However, the growing district expects to need a sixth transportation center by 2020.

In the 20,410-square-foot administration portion, the first floor houses the center’s administration, a police substation, and break and training rooms. Various transportation positions are on the second floor, including the director of transportation, William Powell.
