ManagementPhotos 6July 22, 2022

Winning entries in the 18th edition of School Bus Fleet’s Photo Contest capture weather and wildlife – along with the familiar yellow school bus. These shots were selected from 74 total entries by SBF staff.

A white heron stands in the grass between two parked yellow school buses, creating an unexpected wildlife scene in a transportation yard. The narrow perspective frames the bird between the buses' reflective sides and stop arm.

WINNER: One afternoon after finishing his route for Bristol Virginia Public Schools, Dan Birchfield noticed this heron walking behind a row of buses. He hadn't seen a bird like that before, and as he says, it "was never seen again."

A yellow school bus sits inside a maintenance shop with its front bodywork removed, exposing the engine, belts, pulleys, and mechanical components. The image offers a detailed look at a bus undergoing major repair or maintenance.

WINNER: Jean "J.J." Bellemare, a school-bus driver and CDL instructor with Bryan County Schools in Richmond Hill, Georgia, got this photo that shows a school bus in the process of getting a new engine. He called it a tribute to the complexity of the work accomplished by our diesel mechanics and titled it, "A Clockwork Yellow."
