This 1947 Flxible Clipper coach transports the Anderson Monarchs, a youth baseball team in Philadelphia. The bus currently runs on a mid-60s GMC gas engine and has a newly installed Allison automatic transmission. Last summer, the team traveled 4,000 miles in 23 days. Yes, that’s a tornado looming in the sky. Three of them were spotted around Calgary, Alberta, in July 2015. The Calgary First Student location mobilized bus drivers to evacuate day and outdoor camps. “It was an intense two hours,” said Mike Stiles, assistant location and safety manager.

Christopher Canale, an officer with the New York Police Department, was off duty and driving with his family when he came upon this burning school bus on Oct. 8. Canale pulled the bus door open and, amid thick smoke, helped the aide exit. The driver was pinned, so Canale went around to the driver’s side door and pulled him free.

Drivers, attendants and other transportation staff members from Hillsborough County (Fla.) Public Schools took part in Tampa’s Martin Luther King Day Parade on Jan. 18. The team decorated one of Hillsborough’s new propane buses for the parade, which covered a 2-mile route and drew thousands of onlookers.

Jan Powell, a driver for Liberty-Benton Local Schools in Ohio, snapped this shot of the students on her bus. When asked about the photo, she said, “I looked in my mirror and what did appear? A miniature Santa and 28 reindeer!”
