The parade was part of the district’s Bus Driver Appreciation Week, during which transportation workers were recognized for their hard work in safely getting students to and from school, especially in the midst of the pandemic.

A helping hand: The transportation team at Barnegat (N.J.) Township Schools collected donations to deliver food and other items to families in need this past Easter. Lisa Vargas, the district’s transportation director, said the team plans to continue the initiative next year.

All aboard the Bunny Bus! Mel Nieuwenhuis, a substitute standby driver for Dousman Transport Co. in Delavan, Wisconsin, decked out one of the company’s buses to showcase at a community Easter event on April 3. The Bunny Bus was inspired by a previous creation from one of the company’s now retired bus drivers, Anita Gerhardt.

In Jonesborough, Tennessee, Washington County Schools unveiled its first LionC electric school bus during a ceremony at the district’s bus garage on June 3. The bus, which was purchased using a $219,250 grant through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s School Bus Replacement Grant Program, is reportedly the first of its kind in the state.
