Schools, contractors, and students across the U.S. came together to celebrate and show their appreciation for the yellow bus and its drivers.

San Antonio (Texas) Independent School District gave bags of candy to its drivers to show appreciation. Students also created thank-you cards for the bus drivers and other transportation staff members.

In Alabama, school bus dealership Transportation South held a Love the Bus awards luncheon on Feb. 14, and honored 35 school bus drivers.

Transportation South treated the drivers, superintendents, supervisors, secretaries, and other transportation helpers to a barbecue lunch.

Third-grade students from Meadow View Elementary School in Alabaster, Alabama, also attended the event. They were treated to pizza and cake, and decorated a bus with stickers of their names.

Greenville County (S.C.) Schools highlighted individual bus drivers during the state's School Bus Driver Appreciation Week. Shown here is driver Mike Goodwin. He is also a dairy farmer, and appreciates the benefits he earns on the job, which enable him to continue being a farmer.

Greenville County Schools also interviewed drivers to get their personal stories and why the job benefits them. Gloria Murrillo is a mother who enjoys the mid-day break to do household chores and shop for groceries.  

Urbanno Keremius is a recent immigrant from Guam who wants to help his children pursue the American dream.
