Attendees also heard a band perform and listened to a message from Lightsey about the incredible track record of the school bus industry.

For Love the Bus 2014, the Houston Independent School District transportation leadership team served pancakes and sausage to more than 1,300 transportation employees to celebrate their work in safely transporting children to and from school. The American School Bus Council (ASBC) held the main Love the Bus event at Oak Hill Elementary School in High Point, N.C., on Feb. 21. Among the dignitaries in attendance was U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.

Foxx spoke to students about being respectful to their bus drivers and appreciating the safety, environmental, congestion mitigation and access-to-education benefits of the yellow school bus.

Transportation South in Pelham, Ala., held a Love the Bus celebration on Feb. 4. The dealership honored the state’s best drivers, as voted by the students, parents and teachers they serve.

Guests were treated to a barbecue lunch and cake.
