Glendale (Ariz.) Elementary School District #40 commemorated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a friendly competition among the district's departments and schools for "Paint it Pink" on Oct. 3. The district's transportation department staff made signs conveying the importance of awareness and decorated one of the school buses with them. Doris Bean, manager of transportation at the district, provided the photos and details of the event.

"Some stories were very warming and other stories were completely sad," Bean said.

"Paint it Pink" is a Glendale Elementary School District campaign that is part of Lee Denim Day. All participants donate $5 or more toward breast cancer awareness.

All drivers, monitors and other transportation employees made signs with stories and pictures to decorate the school bus.

The entire transportation crew at the district participated in decorating the bus.

The bus was not driven, because the windows were covered. It was kept in the bus terminal.

The contest winner gets bragging rights. A winner will be announced in a couple of  weeks.

The district has participated in the campaign for the past six years and offers mobile trailers for employees to get checked.
