Winner: Suzanne Bauer of Waterford (Calif.) Unified School District. Pictured here is school bus driver Jeannie Flippo giving directions to Moon Elementary School students during the district's annual bus safety program and evacuation drill.

Honorable Mention: Gretchen Caldwell of Cherokee County (Ga.) School District. Caldwell's picture shows her passengers dressed as storybook characters for a special day at Sixes Elementary School in Canton, Georgia.

Honorable Mention: Dawn Coffin of Maine School Administrative District #37 in Harrington, Maine. Coffin snapped this shot of icicles on a bus after a December storm. Sure, it looks pretty, but Coffin notes that it took an entire day to defrost and de-ice the buses in Maine School Administrative District #37's yard.

Honorable Mention: Jennifer Link of Calaveras Unified School District in San Andreas, California. Link took this visually striking photo of the backsides of several "vintage" Crown school buses.

Honorable Mention: Laurie Martinez of Huron Valley Schools in Highland, Michigan. Martinez says that "one of the unexpected bonuses of driving a school bus is catching some incredible sunrise scenery." In this shot, faint silhouettes of deer appear in the distance.

Also Noteworthy: Mario Hernandez of Marietta (Ga.) City Schools. Hernandez, a school bus driver for Marietta City Schools, photographed this chilling scene on Jan. 28, when a snowstorm snarled traffic in the Atlanta area. Hernandez and his passengers were stranded for more than nine hours.

Also Noteworthy: Susan Tibke of White Salmon (Wash.) Valley School District. Tibke's entry shows preschoolers in "big bus" practice at a mock bus stop on school property. The kids learned where and how to wait, how to watch for the driver's signal, how to board, how to sit and ride, and more.

Winner: Victoria Trujillo deMontrond of West County Transportation Agency in Santa Rosa, California, snapped this shot of newly washed school buses (and a glorious sky) at the West County Transportation Agency bus yard.

Winner: Rosa Lopez of Township High School District 113 in Highland Park, Illinois. Lopez's photo shows a girls athletic team from Deerfield (Ill.) High School boarding a bus after a competition at New Trier Township High School in Winnetka.

Honorable Mention: Libby Helms of Northeast Kansas Community Action Program in Hiawatha, Kansas. Helms, the transportation coordinator for Northeast Kansas Community Action Program, submitted this shot of a couple of Head Start kids buckled up and ready to ride.

Honorable Mention: Laurie Smith of Richfield Springs (N.Y.) Central School. When the school started holding its junior prom off campus, students had to ride buses to the venue as a safety precaution. Smith snapped this shot of students exiting their "yellow limo."

Also Noteworthy: Catherine Lawyer of Summit School District RE-1 in Frisco, Colorado. Lawyer, who was the human resources specialist at Summit School District, spotted this interesting boat while on her honeymoon in the Virgin Islands, and she sent the shot to Transportation Manager Deb Estreich.

Also Noteworthy: Nicole Portee of Denver Public Schools. Portee, Denver's executive director of transportation, snapped this shot of two youngsters getting to know Buster the School Bus.

Also Noteworthy: Lt. Brian Reu of Minnesota State Patrol in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. Reu, Minnesota's state pupil transportation director, submitted this photo of winners in the statewide 2013 School Bus Safety Poster Contest at an awards ceremony before a Minnesota Twins baseball game.

Also Noteworthy: Scott Cantley of Sandusky (Ohio) City Schools. Cantley captured this ethereal scene as buses were warming up in the pre-dawn darkness, with the temperature below zero.
