The National School Transportation Association hosted its annual meting and convention in Calgary, Alberta, in July, and school bus drivers competed there in the 38th annual School Bus Driver International Safety Competition.

The 2009 competition and convention will be held July 18-22 in Greensboro, N.C.

Bill Arrington, general manager of the Transportation Security Administration's Office of Highway and Motor Carriers, addressed NSTA members during a general session at the conference.

In conjuntion with its annual meeting, NSTA also sponsored the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition, drawing more than 90 competitors from across the U.S. and Canada.

The driver competition featured three classes of school buses: small, transit and conventional.

Stock and other NSTA members celebrated the conference's host city and its reputation as home of the annual Calgary Stampede and Canadian Rockies by wearing cowboy hats.
