First Student adds 50 Blue Bird propane buses to fleet

The school bus contractor will use the Propane-Powered Vision units to transport students under its agreement with Bozeman (Mont.) Public Schools. The buses feature GPS, digital video cameras, the Child Check-Mate electronic reminder system and crossing gates.

Durham to serve Michigan district under 3-year contract

The school bus contractor’s agreement with Kenowa Hills Public Schools begins Sept. 1, and the contract is the company’s first in western Michigan. Durham will use 34 buses to serve six schools and more than 2,400 student riders, with a plan to replace a significant portion of the fleet over time, officials say.

Charles Poland named a School Bus Champion

The Alabama school bus driver receives a posthumous School Bus Champion Award from the American School Bus Council for his actions to protect his bus passengers during a standoff with a gunman. Dale County Schools Superintendent Donny Bynum, who accepted the award on behalf of Poland’s family, says, “Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Mr. Poland and what he did. He is the definition of a hero.”

Portal gives public access to Indiana bus inspection records

With the new Indiana State Police web portal, parents and others can easily retrieve up-to-date information from the agency's school bus inspections. The site contains records for more than 30,000 inspections and will automatically update within days after future inspections are conducted.

Winners named in Texas ‘Best Technicians’ contest

Twenty-six school bus mechanics competed for top spots in the Texas Association of School Bus Technicians’ Texas Best Technicians Competition. First place in the inspector division went to Kevin Vollweiler of Frisco Independent School District. Allen Wilcox of Denton Independent School District took first place in the technician division.
