Wonder if they will have to completely remove the back cover and install a different foam? |

The message I got back from my dealer says that the fix is the installation of additional foam to the seat back. And for some reason which I havent seen fully explained, is that this recall does not apply to CA buses equipped with 3 point seat belts. |

That is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,100,000 seats. Give or take a few. |

I guess this shows how close the feds are paying attention to buses that come out of the factory. I had a state inspector that complained about something on a new bus. When I told him that it was that way from the factory he said it doesn't matter what the factory says |

Full disclosure: I do not have any affected buses.
I'm not saying it's legally correct, but when there is an issue of this scope, what can you do? Can we find 50,000 spare buses?
This is a relatively minor defect in a small percentage of total square inches of 50% of the seat foams used....in over 50,000 buses. To down over 50,000 buses for potentially the rest of the school year and put the the students in smaller vehicles (mom and dad's car) will present more danger than the design defect. |

My hat is off to you for being able to do that. Hopefully your dealer will keep you to the front of the line when the parts become available. |

IC had a recall similar to this about 6 or 7 years ago, sounds like the same reason, an unauthorized change in the engineering spec of the seat foam at the foam company. All that was needed was a small foam block glued between the existing foam and seat frame. There was an area there that accomodated the added block.
Hopefully the Thomas recall is so simple. I've read where they want foam added between the cover and existing foam, not sure how that'll turn out. If there's a bulge in the seat, little hands will want to poke, prod and crush! |

Your operation's policy or is that from Thomas' policy? |
