On the 2010 IC CE with MAXX 7. Are you guys able to turn the thing off permanently via Service Max? We change our oil at 10K miles with synthetic oil and would like to be able to change the service interval mode to "off" so that the light doesn't come on at all or to change it for on every 10k miles. It's factory set at around 7.5 K. When I go in to change it I'm not allowed. I'm looking for parameter item #95001 (service interval mode) but all I see is # 95002 (COSI Average MPG & MPH feature enabled without manual override 3.0). Kinda newbie to this so any help would be appreciated. TIA. |

How many hours or months have passed when your change oil light comes on? |
Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback |

Not sure on those numbers as I really haven't noticed. I thought I was turning it off permanently by going into ServiceMaxx and putting "no" in the "engine oil light always on" parameter but I was wrong as one came back yesterday that I had done that to a month ago, it had about 7500 miles on it.It's a pain having drivers keep calling in on the two way asking what they should do as the light has come on. Apparently IC doesn't want us to mess with those settings on our own- warranty stuff I suppose. |

I just wonder if since your light comes on "at around" 7500 miles, if at that point your bus has logged 350 hours, used 1,000 gallons of fuel or 6 months have passed. Going over these intervals could definately effect warranty. We quit going by the mileage interval years ago and just change every 6 months. More often than that on high use vehicles. And yes we use synthetic also to get the benefits of 5W-40 viscosity. |

OK, I see now. Those numbers are new to me. We don't have the experience down here that a lot of you guys on this board do. This bus has 7,571.80 miles 1,178.13 gals. of fuel used 584.00 hours From what I can tell, IC only had to be contacted for a service interval mode change in model year 2010 and above. Thanks for the info Fastback. I don't see how you all get by with 5W viscosity though. We use 15W-40. |

Interesting. None of our ICs have that feature enabled. They are all DT466s.
Perhaps that is something that can be put in your bid specs...... to not enable that feature. |
If it doesn't fit, FORCE it. If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway. Pullin' wrenches for 45 years. |

That's not the case and I was thinking the same thing so I checked with the super on that and he didn't know what I was talking about. Only applies to MaxxForce. |

Below is the service intervals approved for 2010 emission MaxxForce 7, Note that you would have to be getting fuel mileage of 10 mpg inorder to have Navistars blessing to actually go the 10,000 miles on an oil change.
Preventative Maintenance Intervals •Change Engine Oil, Replace Oil Filter: 10,000 miles (16,100 km) / 350 hours / 1,000 gallons (3,800 L) / 6 months •Replace Fuel Filter: 30,000 miles (48,280 km) •Replace Coolant*: 300,000 miles (482,803 km) / 5 years / 12,000 hours •Valve Lash Adjustment: Not Required •Crankcase Breather: 60,000 (96,561 km) *Add extender @ 150,000 miles (241,400 km) / 2.5 years / 6,000 hours

Hey, you don't know the half of it and I posted of this on another thread. We were going 25K between oil changes using synth that a salesman talked the super into buying (we did this for over two years). The sales guy claims that he knows more than the engineers at IC regarding oil life and viscosity breakdown. The shop that does our warranty work caught wind of it and stated that warranty wouldn't cover anything over 10K between oil changes so-- we now use the synth that the sales guy says is good for 10K (it's cheaper). And so it goes. |
