Schools oppose call for seat belts in buses

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.– An Illinois legislator pushing for a law requiring seat belts in new school buses is getting resistance from a surprising source: school officials, who say belts in buses may do more harm than good.

SAND LAKE, Mich. (AP) - A 4-year-old boy drove his mother's car to a video store a quarter-mile from their apartment in this town about 15 miles north of Grand Rapids.
It was the third time in six weeks that a west Michigan child was caught driving a vehicle. On Jan. 13, an 11-year-old Norton Shores boy took a school bus on a two-mile joyride.

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – RCMP have laid three charges of criminal negligence causing death against, Calvin Yeo, the man who was driving a truck that killed three people on Dec. 1.
The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. when the truck, which was carrying potatoes, crested a blind hill. It slammed into the van, which was at the end of a line of vehicles that had stopped to let children onto the bus.

Another Child Behind On An East Texas School Bus

For the second time in a week a child is left behind on an East Texas school bus. Last week an autistic student was left for hours on a Pinetree ISD school bus. It happened again last Wednesday in West Rusk ISD in New London.
A 6-year-old, first grade student was found running along side of the highway after being left on a parked bus for hours.

"Right now she is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence," said Nampa Assistance Chief of Police Tim Vincent.
