I like Waynes. My favorite chassis for them is the International 3800 chassis. I also like the Lifestar FE. |

Wayne really did make a great bus. Very tough looking. Since the body was so boxy, I prefer the older IHC S-1700/1800 cowls and the mid '80s Chevy/GMC myself. I never saw many of the IHC 3800 style cowls on a Wayne. |

I really like the Wayne Superamic Transit REs from the 1950s. I finally found one in an army surplus junkyard in 2002, and even though it had seen better days, it was still very cool. I wish I could find one for sale in salvageable condition, but I haven't found any.
The very first school bus I rode was a Wayne Ford conventional. I didn't ride on anymore Waynes until 6th grade when I rode a 1988 Wayne Lifestar FE. I rode the same bus in 7th grade. I also rode on some of the Wayne Fords on field trips when I was in 9th-11th grade. Then, in 12th grade, I rode on two 1986 (?) Wayne International conventionals a couple times as spare buses. All of them were pretty nice. |

The first school bus I ever rode was a Wayne as well, an International. I didnt ride any more Waynes unless they were for field trips, I never understood why our school took the old Waynes out. I would be taking out the best buses to show up the school. |

I first wayne buses i've rode on was a 1980's Wayne Ford Conventional and a 1980's Wayne Chevrolet Conventional with AM/FM Radio and tinited windows and gas but it not in service any more, 1980's Wayne with a IHC S-1700 conventional. I've seen some Wayne International 3800 Conventional in person. I never liked the 1980's Wayne FE. |
Girardin/Blue-Bird are my favorite school buses

Our district had about 15-20 of them, all on an IHC chassis.
6-1975 IH 1850/3208/Allison 8-1976 IH 1850/3208/Allison 4-1980 IH 1854/3208/5-spd
The 76 models were cool because they only had a side emergency exit (a back-end not unlike those of RE buses), and a back seat that ran the entire width of the bus. One of those is still around, it was sold to a Catholic school that we provide for (along with one of the 1980's). I miss them, I think they were my favorites

I really like Wayne buses, and I wish that the had never gone out of business. The district I used to live in had some Wayne/International conventionals. When I started paying attention to that kind of stuff, they had about 12 '88 71 Passengers, and 2 '90 71 Passengers. Today, there are only 6 of the '88s left, and they just sit at the bus yards mostly, I don't think they use them anymore. I only rode maybe 3 of them, and only about 5 times. They seemed like very solid buses, but many of the drivers disliked them because they were 'hard to drive'. |

Long live the Wayne. From 85 to 92, Floyd Co. purchased tons of them (the only years they did not get them was in 87 (Carpenter), 89 (none), and 91(Blue Bird/Ward)). They were good buses with great visibility. Someone needs to bring them back. |

I love Waynes, too. I drove many 1970's and 1980's International Waynes. Though rather utilitarian looking, they were built solidly and performed well. I miss them and would buy one for myself if time/space/money allowed. |

Waynes were nice buses. I really liked the one-piece roof and sides on the Lifeguard and Lifestar, very novel. I like the Lifeguards on an International 3800 chassis. |
IC the future, and it is bright. |

My district has 2 Wayne Lifestar FEs. Both are 1995s and twins. 26 was repainted in 2003. 40 however needs a paint job. It is really faded. But 40 is the only Lifestar we have with the black powder windows. |

ok, if its not to much trouble, I would LOVE to see a picture of your 1995 Lifestar with black sash!!!! PLEASE! Black sash is SOO rare with Waynes, and it looks so good. |

I have a picture of bus 40 (black sash one), however its basically just a front shot. I need to get a side and front shot one of these days when ever its parked in that position. When I get around to it, I'd be more than happy to show you them :) |

I know this is a little off topic. My county has a Wayne/IHC that has a white top and it goes all the way down to the very top of the windows. Has anyone ever seen or noticed them like that?

I do like Wayne quite a bit, although they're quite non-existent in these parts. I rode on one in 1988, which I think might have been an IHC S1700. I'd have to compare a photo to be sure. Anyway, it was the only Wayne I ever remember seeing in the city. |

Yes. I don't know if it was re-painted or done from the factory. This bus is the only bus its age that has a white top that my county has. |

You just gotta love those Waynes. Here in Florida they almost seem not exist at all. I did come across one though recently and thankfully got a pic of it. Look for it on my March update coming in the next few hours |

I hear ya Ryan. I think you'll be pleasently surprised by this month's update. Not a ton of pics, but they are mostly original from around South Florida, plus bus23 23's 2001 Chevy Blue Bird from PA. Nothing from Mid West Transit or Don Brown's this month. As for ebay, just a few that I photoshopped for more Rockland County NY buses and two SUNY Buffalo "Blue Bird Coach" campus shuttle buses. From now on I will only use already seen pics for photoshops and even then I'll use my own pics if I can since like all of you, I do prefer original pics. |
