I am looking for a 1993 bus with DT360 with a manual transmission. I am looking to bump up the horsepower seriously. Pump and injector work, pyrometer, turbo, maybe some nos and or propane. 4500 rpm is possible with the DT360 lower end. Top end needs some valve work. I've done this with an auto. I sold the old setup. I want a manual transmission this go around. I know jack and **** about the manual transmissions that come behind a DT 360. I've seen 5 and 6 speed. Overdrive Needed, high HIGH torque handling is required as well.. ability to shift decently quick and not weighing a tong is high up in wants as well.
Also transmissions that will bolt up to this motor that I can find relatively easily are good to know about.
I'm curious as to what you plan to do with all of this power and RPM? The DT-360 is a very reliable piece and we've had over 300 at one time or another, but they're gone now for the most part. Are you sure about the 4500 RPM? That's a really long crankshaft to be spinning that long for any length of time!!
At one time IHC made a full sized dump truck with a dta 466 engine those units used a fuller 9513 o/d transmission. It's a small fuller with a full size rear box unit on it that could be built as either an under or over drive unit. These were built in the late 80's.
Spicer ESO6series was a 7 speed OD (.87) that was capable of 660lb/ft, A pretty common IC tranny set up. You should be able to find a donor in an old commercial IHC truck.
Fuller FSO was a 6 speed OD (.87) you could get the 660lb/ft FSO6406 or the 800lb/ft FSO8406 version. The FSO6406 was fairly common on 1998 & newer Freightliner, Paccar, & Ford medium duty platforms. Not so sure about GM.
The bell housings & clutch levers on both Spicer & Eaton tannys were ASE standards. Both trannys should go together with the DT360. The fabrication may come in with chassis installation & clutch linkage to the pedal system.
I may not know the answer but I can usually find who does.
