hi all, got an annoying problem the dealer cannot fix on warranty..
most times when it rains this bus loses all steering switch power, no door, no 8-ways, when things dry out everything returns to normal. It has been to the dealer 4 times, and still no fix.The switches have been replaced twice, but when it rains nothing works..I know this is a moisture problem...no codes are set....any help would be appreciated

Boy, that's a new one. Maybe it's a wiper-related issue??

They need to diagnose the problem and not shot-gun parts at it.

"Dealer cannot fix" does not exist, Dealer will not fix does.

There is a HUGE diagnostic manual for the multiplexed system that will nearly walk any technician right thru nearly any electrical problem involving the body controller or multiplexed system. "All" you need is someone willing to follow proper procedures and trace out the circuits.

If you want customer service, you NEED an International!

seriously, it may be easier to find than you think. Look for a fuse box that's outside, and more than likely it's full of water.

1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

If this bus is a CE model then then all chassis functions are controlled by fuses or relays in the panel outside under the drivers wondow. The forward panel is chassis and the rear panel is considered body fuses.
There is a clock spring under the steering wheel that "transfers" the switch inputs into the wiring that takes it to the body controller. The body controller is looking for a certain value to determine which function is being requested. If I were diagnosing this I would start by checking the zero volt reference-ground wire. There will be a small connector with several gray wires going into it, under the dash to the right side of the instrument cluster. All of these wires will start with an "A9--" number. Many times I have found broken or nearly broken wires related to this.

There are almost NO "chassis functions" (Headlamps, stop/tail, wipers, cruise control etc) that are controlled or wired thru fuses in ANY panel on an IC bus after about 2003. Even *most* of the body functions (all external) are part of the body controller and are unfused in any panel. Only INTERIOR lighting, radios, heater/AC equipment is fused in the electrical panel.

There are a number of chassis systems that ahve fuses in the electrocal panel like the engine computer, ABS etc., but almost no control circuits are fused there.

If the ZVE wire for the steering switches goes bad, the wipers will be on HIGH and you will not be able to deactivate them because you cannot drop voltage on any of the three wiper input wires.

Check the body controller located under the right side of the dash to see if it is getting wet from a leaking windshield or similar thing. The inputs run from the steering wheel to the body controller and maybe there is something getting wet at or near the body controller and shorting the path that should be running through the resistors in the steering wheel. (Just a guess.)
