Our school district has ordered a rear engine 2002 Bluebird with convection heaters. Has anyone had experience with them and what do you think? The winters in northern South Dakota can be extreme with 20 to 30 below zero weather not uncommon and I have my doubts as to whether this style heater can warm the bus sufficiently. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

In this part of the country, we don't have the need for them. However, I have seen them at national conferences and read test data and they appear to be very functional and up to the task. One thing is for sure, it won't take you long to find out!

What is the difference between a convection heater and regular heater?

I've seen the convection heaters on Blue Birds in brochures. They're like a heat register up against the wall. Unlike regular heaters, I don't think there's any fans.

They wouldn't be a convection heater if they had a fan
