Somebody explain this bus to me. I found it for sale on the Don Brown Bus Sales website. It is listed as a 2004 AmTran. In 2004, the brand was called IC Corp, but the exterior has many elements of 2001 AmTran: The Yellow Entrance Door, The old style hood, the drivers area and dash. The interior looking back looks like a 2004 though, especially the molding over the windows. That is the IC style, not the AmTran style. It confuses me because it looks so much like an AmTran!!! Please share your opinions.

It's more than likely a typo. |

I know it is an IC, but why does it have an older style door, drivers area, and hood? |

The AmTran CS on the 3800 chassis was still built under the "International" brand after they started selling ICs. Although the first-generation "International IC" aka "IC CE" chassis was based on the 3800, they were marketed as two distinct models. This bus is clearly a CS on a 3800 chassis.
The 3800 was available through 2003, and there may have been a few leftover units built in 2004. The new hood and dash showed up earlier on the truck version, but for buses they weren't used until 2004 emissions took effect.
All 3 manufacturers changed to plastic wiring covers over the windows as a result of new federal joint strength standards. I forget exactly when this happened, but I believe it was sometime around 03 or 04.
That bus was obviously a custom order, since it's quite rare to see a short conventional with a DT466E, 6sp standard, air brakes, and loaded with options. As far as I know, the CE was never offered in a manual, so a customer would have to order the CS if they wanted those specs.
Remember that manufacturers can set the model year 2 years from the date of production. That bus could have been built in 02 or 03 and titled as an 04. Either way, it was probably one of the last 3800s ever built, and it was clearly spec'd well. Nice find! |

I'd like to know why it still has wheel wells even though it has low profile tires. If it's gonna look that goofy with low pros, might as well give them a flat floor to have something to feel good about.
(I am not a fan of tiny tires ) |

I was in this bus when it was still in service. Beautiful bus. The chassis was built in 2003 or 2004 I don't remember exactly.
Reason why it is a CE with AmTran look and International chassis is because of the manual transmission, I believe. They did not do manual transmissions in Conway or Tulsa, so I believe this is an Illinois chassis. |

That bus is indeed a 2003-4. It is not listed wrong.
It even has the hidden hinges that only International ICs have, and has a LEONARD BUS decal on the back who didn't sell AmTrans.
And I saw the bus in person a year or two ago and remember it being an 03-04. |

That is a nice 2004 3800. Its has all aspects of a 2004 body. Plastic wire mold, flush fuel door latch, flush mounted battery door latch.

That is so strange! Our 2002 AmTran Conventionals have the Vertical grille, and hidden hinges and newer dash, yet Amtran Jacknife door and AmTran rails above the windows, but they are Unlabeled! Logo on hood is black, and nothing above door and driver window.

It's all very odd.
I dont believe anything these days without seeing a VIN. So much stuff can be switched on those buses, such as rear door hinges... |

I saw the damn bus in person. It's true.
Call up Don Brown and have them take a picture of the manufacturer tag. |
