What do you mean by bypassing gov. Are you referring to road speed or internal engine? There is a stop on the floorboard behind the accelerator. A 5/8 wrench will remove it. A lot of Fords are backed off to keep the speed down.

Road Speed. I'm at Scout camp right now, so I can't give you the brand name, but if I remember correctly they are in Wilmington, NC. It's governed at 45 MPH. Not a good thing when the Interstate Speed Limit is 70...

One thing to look at for if this is a former (or current for that matter) NC bus is that the road speed governor may not be the only issue with speed. The NC speed limit for school buses is 45 so the rear axle ratios are purchased with that in mind. You may adjust the governor and find the unit is gear bound based on the ratio.

Rpms top out at about 1600. I was told to bypass the governor, I just have to use a new cable and go straight from the accelerator to the fuel connection

A 6.6L should top out at 2800. I dont know your set up but in VA we have alot of buses with a speed control on the pump. It kinda looks like a cam shaped piece with two screws on the face where the cable goes in. I hope you understand what I mean. You will can remove or adjust this piece to make the pump pull wide open. Just replacing the cable wont fix it if this pieced is on your bus.

Just to clarify, the bus came from VA Beach, VA. The governor was made by a co. in NC
