I was just curious about the history of this engine. My best understanding of the engine changes were the following: there was an initial version in 1994, then a 95 to 97 version, and then a 98 to 03 version. Im sure there might have been many very small yearly revisions, but I was interested in the larger changes that were made to this engine over time. I have a basic understanding for how the Heui system works. The only thing I really know is that the sound of the engine became much quieter/more "clicky" after 97. The earlier versions had a much harsher (and nicer) knock to them on the lower rpms. I was also curious as to where oil leaks tended to occur the most and if oil leak problems were less common on the later models. Thanks for any information as I love learning about International's engines.
The reduction in combustion knock was from "split-shot" injectors. These new injectors would inject a small amount of fuel initially, then a slot would be exposed momentarily when they would inject no fuel, then covered to inject the main fuel charge.
Honestly, I never had many oil leaks except when the oil pan rotted off or the dipstick tube base fell into the pan.
If you want customer service, you NEED an International!
