Quick Question:
How high are the current "low-back" seats?
How high are the current "high-back" (New York-style) seats? |

Can I get back to you, Bob? My bus is at the yard and I'm here...
What do I do...measure from the floor to the top of the seat backs?
edited to add: I'll tell ya one thing.....they stick up high enough to make it a pain in the *** to wash the inside of the winders! |

Did you read the entire topic? The very first response, by buster133, answered the question. |

I'm sure it would be worth measuring a Blue Bird seat and comparing it to a Thomas seat however I think it might be a visual thing. The Blue Bird seat backs appear to be on more of an angle which would make their height appear lower. |

I trust that my entire fleet, as well as the bus sitting in my driveway right now, is built right. |

Thank you all for the responses.
I was reading an article about seatback heights in a school transportation publication and it mentioned something about changing the federal requirements and raising the seatback height.
The heights of 24" and 28" were mentioned. I am not exactly sure how those measurements are taken, the 41" makes more sense. If anyone has any ideas where the 24" and 28" measurements come from, let me know.
As far as seatback heights are concerned, using those measurements, I would assume 20" are low-back, 24" are high-back, and 28" is going to be the new standard? Or, are my guesses wrong? I have heard 20" mentioned before. |

I would think the 24" and 28" would be measured from the floor to the seat cusion, not from the seat cusion to the height of seat back. Not sure though. |

You could be right.
I always thought that measurement was taken from the seat cushion to the top of the seatback, since the seatbacks usually vary in height. If I can remember, I will have to do some measuring tomorrow. |

I just measured the seats in my bus. Since it is an Illinois spec. bus, it has the NY High Back seats.
From the floor to the top of the seat: about 41 inches From the seat cushion to the top of the seat: about 22 inches From the floor to the seat cushion: about 15 inches
Yeah, those last two arent exact, but you get the point. I was doing this in the dark.
P.S. 600 posts! |

Thanks, Cody! You beat me to it. lol
I guess I should have been more specific when I posted this topic. I was really looking for the height measurement from the seat cushion to the top of the seat back. At least now I have all the different types of measurements for a school bus seat. |
