So I removed the rear heaters on my 2001 Amtran with the Dt466 and now I have a coolant/ oil light on after filling it back up, is there a bleeder valve somewhere to bleed the air out of the system? |

We have three old BB with dt466's in them. Mine have a petcock bleeder screw on the engine side of the firewall in the metal 90 degree elbow for the right side heater assembly. Open the hood and look below the air cleaner assembly. That will take care of that side. For the drivers side heaters I rely on the heat pump ( if yours has one ) to get a good start on pushing the fluid through. Checking the level closely when doing the pre trip for a couple days, will usually get all the air out. If you had a full system before you drained it, you'll know how close you are to full by how much you get back in. If yours don't have a heat pump, I'd go find a sharp incline, or get the front end up fairly high so the air wants to get up and out to the radiator by warming up the engine. Or you could buy a pump dedicated to pumping engine coolant, tap into the heater hoses to fill and circulate the system that way. |

That was about the time buss's were going to orange extended life coolant. You can use either green or orange coolant, but don't mix them. I would go with the orange, because nothing any more comes from the factory with the old green coolant. |

This is from the DT466 operations manual.
Cooling System REQUIREMENTS NOTE: ROTELLA extended life engine coolant or its equivalent (red in color) has been provided by Navistar, Inc. for use in cooling systems for engines with the “C” model code for 2000 through 2003 and all later model year International® trucks equipped with the DT 466E diesel engine. Cooling System Specifications (cont.) MAINTAINING REQUIRED INHIBITOR CONCENTRATION (FOR EXTENDED LIFE COOLANT) {RED IN COLOR} (cont.) The inhibitors in extended life coolant become consumed, thereby extending service intervals to 5 years, 300,000 miles (483,000 kilometers) or 12,000 hours, with the addition of extender chemistry only at the half way point: 30 months, 150,000 miles (241,000 kilometers) or 6,000 hours. Extended life coolant does not require a filter. If a filter is installed, only a blank filter containing no supplemental coolant additive (0.0 units of [Diesel Coolant Additive] DCA-4), Navistar P/N 1 833 690 C1 or Fleetrite® P/N WF 2140, should be used. The coolant filter, when used with extended life coolant, should be replaced at 6,000 hours, 30 months or 241,000 km (150,000

Thanks guys!!! RonF do you know anything about the 01 Amtran FE as in if there's a bleeder? Or procedure? I found a service manual for $120 but it says Genisis Amtran on the cover and the copyright says 93 or 94? Should this cover everything on my 01? |

I've never worked on an Amtran but the IC 3800's had a bleeder on the left side heater hose returning to the water pump.

You might try pulling vaccum with an airlift as well it should get the air out and allow it to pull more coolant in. |

Thanks for the info, I just ordered one the other day and new antifreeze. Probably replace some of the hose and filter if it has one also as the hose was soft on the one by the lower step. |
