We just had a 2011 IH bus with the Maxxforce 7 engine go out. It only had 93K miles on it and has been rather trouble free until now. It lost compression on 2 cylinders and sounded like a cam went out too. Was popping back out intake. Has anyone else seen this?? I tried but Navistar wont help split anything and said it was too old. (under 7 years). It cost over 20K for everything to do at dealer. Between this one now and having 2 VT365's in the fleet they are a real budget killer.

Might want to contact your area Cummins dealer and inquire about the possibility of repowering your bus. Ours was done for under $29k and includes new ISB Cummins with new aftertreatment, a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty and a 17% increase in fuel economy.

Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback

Feel your pain! We have 22 VT365 engines with an average of over 240,000 miles on them. They are total money pits. After our early experiences and lack of support from IH, we would not allow any V8 to be bid any more, so I have none of the 7's.

We too now only order Cummins in our new buses. Wanted to switch to propane this year but these V8 diesels are breaking the budget too much to switch.

I also just finished repairing a maxxforce 7 single turbo engine that lost a lifter. I installed a spare vt365 camshaft ,new set of lifters and replaced the rod, piston, valves and valve train on the offending cylinder. The parts came out to about $3500 and 3 weeks labor. Lots of work to fix a $20 lifter.

We were fortunate that we purchased a 10 year extended warranty on these engines. Have had several with major work done. comp engines and long blocks, once the warranty is out they will disappear.

Warranty paid for itself. Good call, wish we could get extended warranty. My boss tells me if we purchased extended warranty then they wouldn't need us. LOL

We had one that was rebuilt under warranty, went another 36,000 miles to be 5 months out of warranty and I/C split the parts on a new camshaft and lifters. Companies just don`t take care of customers like they used to.
