We have reacted a milestone today. Our first bus just busted 300,000 miles. It is a 1996 BlueBird TC2000 The drivetrain is all original and the only things replaced are component bolted to the engine. The injectors and pump are still the originals. Good old 5.9!!! |

I've always said Cummins is tried and true. That's awesome! |

cummins for the win!!! my 2000 intertrashional is at about 330K. got its second motor about 90K ago. when i worked on the city transit we pulled those garbage motors out at about 150K because soon after they were likely to start breaking down frequently. best of luck ryan but if i were you id get ready for an engine swap. |

Don't know. The bus doesn't have an hour meter. |

Not too shabby! Can't go wrong with Cummins in my opinion. However, I think the best Detroit Series 60 Engines still are the king of the hill as far as overhauls go. I've heard of those things lasting 1,000,000 without a major overhaul. |

Wow Bassman, We will have had all of our VT365's replaced here by the end of next month at around 120.000 miles. I believe they failed due to the lack of proper maintenance. You just can't operate an engine for 25-30,000 miles a year and only change the oil once.
How these old cummins are making after such abuse is a testament to how well they were built. |

I have a 1990 4700 with 1.2 million miles on it. It is on it's 3rd DT360 engine, but that's not completely accurate, as the 2nd engine only went 800 miles before the turbo went bad and sucked all the oil out of the engine, lol (mine's not a bus, and 90% of the miles are OTR)
The big wigs are gonna make me get rid of it this year, and I'm really gonna miss it. These DT360's shake, rattle, and roll, but they are about as solid as can be.

They certainly don't make them like that any longer. There's no way that a school bus can make that many miles, in my opinion. There's just too much stop and go. |
