I was removing an exhaust manifold to do some work .I noticed there are sleeves in the exhaust ports .What and why are they there ? 2 were really oily and I could remove them with my fingers . Do I need to replace them ? How tight should they be ? Bus wasn't smoking or going through a lot of oil .Hope someone can help. Bus does have an EGR .

I am not sure of the purposes but i can easily remove all of mine. i always remove them to clean the gasket surface then reinstall them. if they are oily it indicates a problem. i would also make sure it is not coolant from the EGR Cooler.
