02 Int, 77 pax, Rear pinion has some movement up and down, Could hear the bus coming back to the shop on a coast, Backlash noisy, Under power fine. Going to take the driveshaft off ect. to get at the bearing. Like I said some movement up and down has not been like this, Just started. Question is since I haven't only done pinion seals will the bearing come out? or do I have to remove the whole hogshead to replace the pinion bearing & race? Procedure?

Bought the bus used, Yeah the pumpkin was about dry..

Thanks

Depending on what diff you have you can pull the yoke off then pull the ring of bolts around the pinion shaft and the pinion and bearings will come out. But first pull the drain plug and see how much metal is in the bottom of the housing. If it was run dry there is a very good chance that the whole thing needs to be pulled and repaired. There are shims under the pinion flange that you remove or add to adjust the amount of pinion bearing preload. You can find good manuals on the manufacture web sites.

On that old of a unit I would consider a used hogs head if you have metal in it. Saves lost of time, money and headaches.

Pulled those six bolts and would move some, about a 1/2 inch but not come out. SO I pulled the whole hog out and took it to a reputable shop near by. No medal inside surprisingly Ring gear looks good and the pinion does too just the pinion bearing look frazzled, Think I caught it in time.
