I have found some school districts are requiring their bus assistants to have an AA degree like a paraprofessional is required to have in a classroom. What do you think about this? Does your school district require this? Do you feel this would recruit a better prepared employee for working with Special Education students? |

That would certainly eliminate all the bus assistants in our district. Trainging, yes, but college? On what bus assistants' salaries? Laughable.

Let me see, NYS minimum wage per hour = $7.25, number of applicants with AA degrees for this position = ? I'm guessing like not many..... |

That's absurd. Who with an AA degree is even going to apply for the job? |

I can hear the conversation now, "Mom, I want to go to college". Mom says, "that's a good goal, Honey, what career do you want to pursue with your degree?" "I want to be a bus assistant!"
Not happening. |
