This quote from the story is useful as well:

"If the students are rowdy, there's no question that would take his attention away from driving the school bus." said Ben Shew, state transportation director.

I agree that anytime the driver looks away from the road the risk of a crash escalates. When the bus driver is focused on the road he or she is not supervising the students, and when focused anywhere else but the road the bus is driving itself.

Would have been useful to know specifically what new training program is being offered and how it is different from the previous methods. Looks like bullying and noise are being addressed, including not playing the radio or at least keeping it low. Much easier to spot trouble in a calmer environment. (jk)

That article didn't really say much of anything informative, did it? Yes we know that you have to keep it down to a "low roar" (or less) in order to hear what is going on around you. I guess we expect more from our news about school bus driving.

Nothing great has ever been accomplished without enthusiasm!

I agree, much was left to guess at. It would seem whatever the topic the name of the new program, what it is related to and how it works would be obvious questions. (jk)
