One of the science teachers was trying to ask me a question i didn't know about school buses. He found it. Does anybody know what metal they use (any manufacture) to anchor the seat to the floor on the aisle side.

Thanks,

Are they really lag bolts? I would think that school bus seats would be required to through-bolted. Seems like lags into just sheet metal and plywood could pull out in a wreck...

I thought they were bolted all the way through as well, they should be if they aren't. It might take extra time but child and driver safety is the most important.

They are bolted all the way threw with a nut on the other end. Grade 8 i believe.
Pain in the a$$ trying to take them out. Its funny though the once on my 83 Carpenter came right out. The other buses I had I had to cut them off with a grinder.

Oh okay....that's what I thought. A lag bolt is like a big wood screw with a hex head on it. They are very strong when driven into big timbers....the 8V-71s in my boat are lag bolted (HUGE ones) into the engine stringers.

I was thinking of the dog house around the engine for some reason, Those are lagged in, But yeah the seats are bolts with nuts on the end. BUT some of my old buses the steel sheet is rusting around the nut, They do not look good.
