On a field trip, a fellow driver saw a car with a personalized license plate that read 3M 3T18 (or "BITE ME" written backwards). I'm not sure how they managed to get that license plate, but it was funny! (In California, for personalized license plates, you have to give an explanation of what the saying you want means.) |

I saw a rediculous one the other day... "HI ON E"... talk about one way to get yourself a ticket!
I'll have to try to remember some funny ones...
In the mean time, here is a list of terms for plates:

It's not quite a license plate, but I like the name of my small Force Five racing boat..." Toyachta " One might consider that a great license plate, as it identifies my boat during races.
Also, one of my friends drives a car with, what I call a big behind. His plates say "BOOTY" |

This was a real plate in FL that has been retired at this point I'm sure. I won't explain it here since this is a family oriented forum, but it belonged to an older gentleman who lived in Miami-Dade county, LOL: http://linux.duke.edu/~icon/bizarre/a55-rgy.jpg |

A friend of mine, named McDonald, owns a horse farm out in the VA hunt country. His trucks are lettered "McDonald Farms" and one of them has a license plate that says:

A couple of years ago while out driving the freeways I saw a car with the plate "BZZLTYR"
Even better than that was the set I saw that same day: An RV towing an SUV behind it, the RV's plate said "THE RV" and the SUV's plate said "THE SUV" |
Due to the current economic condition, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off until further notice. |

My state it's more important than having a "name liscense plates" is having a low digit tag. If you have a 5 digits below a certain number you can have a black and white tag which where the orignal color of our license plates. The lower the digits you have the more important you are precieved they're actually worth money people constantly pay money for low digit tags. 4 digit tags are running anywhere from $6000 and up. 3 digits tags are in the mid $20,000 or higher, and 2 digits can sell between $80,000 and $100,000+. So more people are worried about having low digits than having a name across the back of there vehcile where I am. |

In my state the regular issue plates are about like this: 000-EAA were issued around 1991, 000-PAA were issued around 2002, 000-SAA were issued around 2005, 000-TAA were issued around 2006. I wonder when they'll go to 7 digits. If you have the old blue/silver plates, you are a "native nevadan" I guess. Now they offer it as the price of a custom plate initially, but you pay a regular annual registration fee after buying the plates. I still haven't figured out how to get them...the woman at the DMV didn't even know. I have the form, so I may get them later on. |

When I was driving on I-5 one day, I passed a small car with Washington plates that read 880SR5R.. It didn't take too long to figure out the meaning of that plate. |

Virginia's standard issue plates are white with blue numbers, VIRGINIA is in red. We also have 80+ specialized plates you can choose from. Everything from military to colleges. Jamestown (the first settlement in 1607) to Senic (Mountain to Sea). I have the Jamestown plates on one car and VA Railroad Heritage plates on the other (I'm also a train nut).
I saw a tag a fdew years back that read: T1H2 O. Read it in the rearview mirror. |

Kentucky used to have the infamous Mr. Smiley plate (which about 95% of the people hated). It caused such a blacklash that they have changed the style starting in last August to a more simple and better design. |

I liked those smiley plates! But I like their new ones as well.
Does anyone collect license plates as a hobby? I've begun a small collection. |

here's an article about VA having the most personalized plates in country.
http://www.news8.net/news/stories/0506/327626.html
saw a mini van w/ plates- H2OWAY also had sticker on bumper- LB i figure it's "waterway" meaning van is way they go to water; but which water? who knows beach or lake, initials LB?
this one's not a plate, but for couple yrs, been seeing new culdesac w/ strange name. i always look @ plates forward & reverse, but didn't think to do w/ this street name for a while.
street name- Derosnec = Censored
makes me wonder what they REALLY wanted to name it!

Thanks for the article Gini, it was interesting to read. It sure looks like VA is on the ball, and they charge such a low fee. I wish that Massachusetts was like that. I do see regular plates that have sayings, around here, but I'm not sure how much they pay. I can't remember off the top of my head right now... We were supposed to get plates that had the smiley face, because the inventor of the smiley was from Massachusetts, but for some reason, it never happened, but what VA is doing is great. I do see many VA plates up here in MA, but just the regular ones.
Here is what the fees are in Mass to get a special plate. Initial Registration Fee:$36 Special Plate Fee:$40 Renewal Fee: $81 every 2 years

It took me a while to find out, so here it is "Plates with the word "LOAN" are also issued to dealers for use on vehicles they loan to customers."
These plates are not issued to the public, only dealer's. But when I took a vehicle for a test drive, they had the dealer plate on the dash, but that was for a test drive. |

Hey I'm just a school bus driver and I drive a Mercedes--a soon to be classic--1984 with only 94,000 miles.
Well my tags on the Benz are up in Aug and I've decided to retire the Jamestown plates that I've had for years (they're on their fourth car) and get the lighthouse plates. I'll keep the same number (my initials and birthdate) just on a new plate. |
