I wonder how much Laidlaw will get for these buses that they are selling on alliedbussales- These buses used to be in my old yard! I could tell by the Ast# WOW, they are ten years old. So, I guess I found out where some of the 96's went, they hiked from MA to RI (not a long hike) but I just wonder how much $ LL will make. I can't see how a bus of only 10 yrs will be put out to pasture. I wonder if the new owner will use the bus or just buy them for parts.

At dealers, I've seen 1996 AmTran REs sell from anywhere between $7,000.00-$14,000.00. Prices may be considerably lower at an auction, however. |

Thanks bus kid....Well my first "baby" is in that list. The first bus listed My first bus. It was a good bus, but it sure did add on the mileage.
826 was a spare. We used to just call it by its last three digits. |

I'm willing to bet my lunch that every single AmTran RE from that list is going to end up being auctioned off. Laidlaw seems to auction off almost everything around here. If I see it at the auction, I'll be sure to get some photos.
$7-14,000 hahaha, those will sell for $500-2,500 at an auction. |

Which is why I said that they have sold for considerably less at auction. ($2,500.00 and below.)
My hat is off to Midwest Transit and the other dealers for being able to move those buses at higher prices; especially when some of them aren't in what most people would consider to be "mint" condition. |

haha yep... Midwest loves markin' em up! Most expensive used bus dealer that I can think of, next to A-Z of course.
I will say though... those AmTran REs, if you buy them at auction prices, can be a GREAT way to make profit. Sell them on eBay after the auction at a $2,000 markup and you can be doing a nice little dance afterwards. Plus you'd be able to have some fun with it before it gets sold. |

Can you imagine how much a 1996 AmTran RE would list for at A-Z Bus Sales? We paid over $30,000.00 alone for a 1988 Crown Supercoach from them. |

ROFL!
Letsseehere... a 96 AmTran RE at A-Z Bus Sales would probably cost five hundred thousand junior bacon cheeseburgers! OK, maybe more like $30,000. |

With hydraulic brakes to boot!
Complimentary graffiti if the bus came from an inner city contract (seriously). |

Do they throw in a complimentary key chain at least? |

No. You have to borrow one from one of the new buses. |

Both of you put some money together and buy my old bus #776 and give it to me!! I bet "she" is in bad shape now anyways-it was turned into a spare when I was given the 97. I hated 826, it was a spare-rattled-it would leak too (from the roof hatches) or..it might have been 816..both 826 and 816 were spares (816 left the yard in 2003) but 826 and 776 stayed until the end of the contract

LOL. If I was in the market for one, I think I'd wait until one of the 2000 AmTran REs that I used to drive went into retirement. They had DT-466s, Allison MD-3060s, Air Brakes, etc.! |

I would love to buy an old all-american and turn it into a camper. Bling-Bling, like, with solar panels and a shower cubicle, the whole sha-bang.
It would probably be cheaper than a winnebago, AND the higher safety standards always rock. |
