Fri Oct 21 2005 - Winnipeg Free Press, Manitoba, Canada -- MISALIGNED steering hoses in a half-dozen General Motors-built trucks and school buses, all with 8.1-litre engines and Hydromax braking systems, could cause steering problems and possible brake failure. The hoses could contact the intermediate steering shaft and wear through, allowing hydraulic fluid to leak. Increased effort may be required for steering and braking, increasing the risk of a crash.

If a hose fails, the driver will see the brake warning light come on and hear a warning tone as well as noise from the power steering pump.

Dealers will reposition the hoses, and replace any found with exposed steel braiding. Models involved are the 2003-2005 Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick 4500 and 5500, the 2003-2005 Chevrolet school bus chassis and the 2003-2004 GMC school bus chassis.

Recall notices are mailed to vehicle owners and may take several weeks to arrive.
