on the 1999-2006 AmTran-IC RE's, we have air door, master switch for the warning lamps, strobe, heaters, wipers, rear A/C controls (only on 2002-2006's) clip lights, and tail lights, interior lights, on 99-01's they have the 2-way radios, all on the left
On the right... Gear lever (1999-2001), and on the 02's-06's they have the push-button, the warning light controls, emergency door release, fans (99-01), stop sign and cross gate override, Front A/C controls (2002-2006), heater, defroster
Over head of driver - (2002-2006) 2-way radio, and on both they have the AM/FM/casette player with PA system. on 2000-2001 Interior lights,
We keep our buses at schools, garages, county-owned lots, transit bus lots, very few at home, government centers, and police stations. As well as a few at some fire stations. Many are parked in fire engine and police car lots as well.
Maybe IC, Busfreak, and IC RE 1629 can elaborate more on these buses as well as our Thomas's, Blue Birds, Waynes, and Wards?? |

On the HDX's the AM Fm Radio is right next to the steering wheel. Some of the buses just has pa system, on the right is the 8 warning lights. the push button transmission and the 98 Thomas ER's has the bus button transmision too. A lot of the bus are parked at the schools and some of them are park in garages. THe HD/HDX has an a option to have a lock on the service door (which LCPS didn't get). Loundon County. When I was in Fairfax county I would talk to my old bus driver at Dransville elm. |

Fast idle,on the earlier Thomas some of them have the light warning system which was on top of the am/fm radio where in fcps the two way radio would be. the heaters are on the left hand side along with the air door switch and the warning lights overide. |

Ya know, I was looking at the (left hand) switch panel on my '97 Thomas ER today and I counted 21 switch places on that panel. My bus only has switches in 10 (or maybe 11) of them. I wonder what all optional gadgetry a bus would have to have to have all 21 switches installed?

One of them are automatic snow chains LCPS has it on all buses. you have to go to 45 MPH to have them come out. and I forgot what it is to put it back in, aditional heaters. |

Oops, I counted again today...there are 24 switch blanks with 11 in use. (these are those rocker type switches)
On my bus: Strobe-1 switch Interior dome light-1 switch Driver dome light-1 switch Auxiliary defrost fans-2 switches Booster pump-1 switch Rear heater fan-1 switch Front heater fan-1 switch Defrost fan-1 switch Traffic light override-1 switch Traffic light ?-1 switch (if you hit this switch the red traffics activate, and the stop arm and crossing gate extend simultaneously...without the ambers activating)
sub, you helped some(I counted 19 on yours)...but I still can't think of enough bus accessories to use up all 24 switch blanks! A LOADED one, I guess. |

I've never heard of having a wheelchair lift switch on the control panel. My county's buses with lifts on them have a separate control for the lift. |

Our newer buses have been coming in with a wheelchair lift switch on the control panel. It's sort of like a "master" switch for the lift, and this switch needs to be on before the lift will come down. You still have separate controls for the lift. |

I know on a lot of Blue Birds they will have many Dome light switches so that the driver can turn on only certain dome lights. Some of them just have one switch and the rest are blanks. |

Our Blue Birds had 10 dome lights in them plus the drivers dome and were controlled as follows: 1- Drivers Dome (located in center of first roof panel) 2- Left side (controls the first 4 lights on the left side of the bus) 3- Right side (controls the first 4 lights on the right side) and 4. Rear (controlled the 2 rear lights, one on each side).
Our Thomas conventionals came equipped with 6 dome lights plus the drivers dome and were controlled as follows: 1. Drivers dome, 2. First four lights, 3. last two lights. Our HDX models are equipped with 10 domes plus the drivers dome and are as follows 1. Drivers, 2. First four, 3 second set of four, 4. last two. |
If you have an International, you NEED customer service. |

I like the setup where you can leave the rearmost lights on, especially when doing a late night charter or shuttle run where people may be moving around. Far enough back that you don't get a reflection in the windshield and offers a bit of light for those who want to stretch their legs or even look at a newspaper.
On the last Blue Bird school-type bus I ran for my charter business I had installed a blue light filter film (like you use in theatre lighting) in the first 2 dome lights which meant I could keep the lights on when the group requested it and not get the glare up front. It was the same effect you see on some city transit buses where the forward fluorescent lamps have a blue covering.

If you had read his profile you'd realise that its unlikely a 14y/o is DRIVING a bus. Someone is just a bit paranoid. |
