Don't trust aftermarket ones. I'm battling a smoker right now that smokes horrible with a new aftermarket DPF, but not a reman IC. It ***** because the cost difference is about $900.

DEF not DPF right
the little filter in the DEF dosing unit just unscrew it (22mm or 24mm 12 point socket) just pop it out install new run unit make sure there is no leaks good to go
if its a cummins do the def fluid leak test to ensure repair
and if you meant to say DPF filter never aftermarket always OEM |
OEM trained in wiring and all engine platforms for over 20 years

DEF and yes, the little filter they think is made of spun gold.....
Figured it was pretty straight forward but wanted to be sure there wasnt any crazy bleeding process or such needed.

We are entirely insane and have been doing it annually (overkill) but as expensive as the 2018+ filters are, we are going to have to reconsider it.
Our theory was that it would maybe prevent pump problems, but each year, the then-oldest pump is dying, so I guess that didn't pan out. |

My bus was in for a trans filter and I thought why not since it has not been changed since new. Bus has 65k on it. Can't say that I have seen a mileage recommendation.

I wondered the same as your last sentence. As much of a fuzzy wreck the DEF makes when spilled I figured the filter would be about the same. Mine looked like one you pull out of your water filter at home.... |

There SHOULD have been a small green book that came with the bus (but we know how that goes). It's a Cummins book titled "owners manual". Section 3 has all the interval info.
It says the DEF filter is 200,000 miles or 6500 hours. Having seen some nasty stuff in DEF tanks in the last 9 years, that seems a bit long, but I'm not an engineer. |
