What type of Fluid should I use in my 1985 Allison four speed automatic transmission behind my DT466?

Dexron or Type C4 rated oils are approved fluids. Some 15W-40 and 30 motor oils are approved C4 oils.

Depending on where you are, Dexron III is the best oil to use. I wouldn't use 15W40 up here in Maine. That oil would be gelled at -15.

Mobilfluid 424 is approved for warmer climates.

If it doesn't fit, FORCE it.
If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway.

From my experience an auxiliary tranny cooler and transynd oil can make a 545 survive behind a 466. Especially ones that go up any hills on there route.
