Hello,

Please can you help?

I own a 1999 GMC Bluebird school bus I imported from America to
here in Staffordshire in th U.K. in 2008 and am looking to obtain info on it for VOSA. (VOSA is the UK version of the DMV)

Copy and paste the link below for a picture of the model.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3238/2672371242_65b521cd16.jpg?v=0

It's the half length hydraulic brakes version with power lift for wheelchair access.

VOSA need the following info:

brake system directive. to what U.S. standard/directive/compliance
document were the brakes built to when the vehicle was manufactured?

Please view my website www.thebigyellowbus.co.uk (the bus in question
is not the one on the home page, that was a model we were using from
before the project began. click on the gallery and you will see it) and you
will see what may never come to fruition, as without the required
field of information, VOSA (DMV) will refuse the applicable certificate to
carry passengers. I have been working for 3 years on this project and spent
a lot of money. Heartbreak would not begin to explain how I would feel if
this were to happen.

I have tried to no avail getting this info from the manufacturers but feel confident someone in this forum will out think the manufacturers themselves and come up with the goods.

Thanks guys,

Craig - Proud U.K. Blue Bird Owner.

I have to do some checking through the chassis line sheets and see what I can come up with. Do you have a VIN#? 17 digit vehicle identification number. I have a few line sheets from 1999 we kept in customer files. I am not sure if there will be something stating about the brakes and what year DOT standards were conformed to. Being Bluebird added the body they would have that knowledge you would think? Also someone in the DOT here in the states should be able to answer this question as well. I'll see what I can find out here.

This link may help.

Hydraulic Brake vehicles would be required to comply with FMVSS 105 & 106 at time of manufacture. FMVSS 116 would apply to the OE brake fluid used.

That's a good looking bus! Is what you are looking for the minimum thickness of the brake disk? Maybe I am thinking too simply here. Otherwise I would refer to JRob's post. That would be the "directive" that the manufacturer would have to follow plus if there was any special equipment that NJ mandated. (I really doubt the later though because that FMVSSS code would have been pretty strict)

Are there any GMC and Chevrolet Medium duty vehicles in your community? You might check and see what they did to obtain the paperwork. Basically it's the same vehicle as a school bus.

took awhile, and a lot of fun reading along the way but here's the link to the CFR that covers section 105 (I think, I might be a bit confunded).

<end link>
did that because it spans 3 lines in the quick reply box.
