We have three 2011 model year Visions. Two of them have the DEF and one does not. The two that have the DEF are 48 passengers and the 72 passenger does not have the DEF. Why is that?

Non-SCR (no DEF) Cummins engines are cheaper and less hassle than SCR. A lot of buses built in early 2010, titled as 2011s, used non-SCR engines that were built in 2009. I know of several operators that chose Blue Bird specifically because dealers had 2011 buses with pre-2010 engines available.

Most of the 2011 ICs didnt have the 2010 emissions either.
Kind of depends on the built date and how many extra 2009 engines are left in overstock.

That kinda explains it. The 48 passengers were ordered and the 72 passenger was a stock bus. Musta been on the lot for a while?

I'll show you my air brakes if you show me yours.

I've heard the dealers are stocking a few buses, so that the delivery process is quicker. Some operations are grabbing up the pre-2010 units. I personally would rather order the bus and get exactly what I wanted... although I'm sure the dealer could alter the bus to match certain specs.

We just purchased one. Saved a lot of money over the cost of one with a current power train.

Ya, you either stock buses or pull down your Bluebird sign. Dealer upgrades are fine but more costly than adding the option at the factory.
