Anybody out there having problems with the IC buses with the 8000 pound front axle and excessive king pin wear? I've got a 2008 with less than 50,000 miles on it and the king pins are worn beyond service limits. This is apparently an Eaton axle and not a Spicer.

Don't know about any special issues with 2008s but our experiance has been that the 8,000 pound and under axles are far more likely to have king pin wear issues than the 10,000 and up front axles.
I also saw that IC was going to switch to Meritor axles, no word if it was a cost issue or a product satisfaction issue.

Operating; Seven T444Es, One MaxxForce 7, One VT365, Four DT466s, One E-450 6.0 and one Mercedes in a C2.

That's precisely why Florida went to a 10,000 # front axle several years ago...No issues with that one and not much $$ difference.

Regular grease, once a month.

Ditto on the 10K axles, we use Mobil CM syn. grease every 60 days. 2007 CE's w/DT's...zero problems.

Our entire bus fleet has 10K axles and are lubed with Mobil CM-P every 2500 miles and I can't remember the last time I had kingpin issues.

If it doesn't fit, FORCE it.
If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway.

We greased our fleet every 45 days but followed the Mfgr's instructions to the letter, and NEVER had KP issues. Then again, we didn't steam clean the axles except just prior to summer lay-up/servicing either and water in the KP will tear up the bushings.
