1998 Thomas/International conventional.

AM mechanic opened the lot and saw a bus with the marker/running lights on. He entered the bus to turn off the lights, the light switch was off and there was the smell of hot/burnt wires. The blue wire #62 was hot to the headlight switch.

First correct guess of the cause or fix wins a prize!

The headlights weren't on... just marker/running lights.

No DRL, but good thought.

I've seen a lot of those headllight switches in the Int's go bad. Seems like their not built "heavy" enough... as are many other things in a bus.. prone to a lot of dirt, dust, .."greenie weenies" lol.

Were gonna miss you "Brent"..Good luck in "Heidi land"

The wires to the "Master Switch" relay and switch stay hot always as does the drivers dome light switch, the warning light switch (on some) and lets not forget a 12 volt outlet for accessories. Rubbed through or barbecued these wires could energize the light circuit.

After ruling out the headlight switch, I'd be inspecting the backside of the fuse panel to the left of the headlight switch for toasted wires and terminals and pulling related fuses. Next I'd be inspecting the main unswitched bus to that fuse panel for shorts.

If it doesn't fit, FORCE it.
If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway.

The ammeter circuit (#26) shorted to the dash light circuit (#62) in the left third printed circuit in the dash.
