It is a "Diesel noise insulation package",and it came out in the mid 80's or so when diesels were optional and considerably more noisey than gas engines. The biggest deal was the plywood floor in addition to the standard sheet metal floor and added insulation in the bulkheads. We had to teach the drivers NEVER to wash out the inside of a bus with a hose! Have to use a damp mop as the water will eventually get to the wood and cause it to buckle. This is also standard equipment in Florida's A/C package on any bus where A/C is ordered. Hope this helps.
