In the recent months we have had batteries and gasoline stolen from our trade-in and consingment busses. Also fuel is being stolen. Yes we have locks on some of the doors, but not all. I guess times are tough. I was thinking about installing a microswitch on the battery and fuel doors of a bus, and having them trigger a camera. Anyone done this? Either that or I was going to put a cherry bomb in a gallon of paint or tar inside the battery box.
Micro-switch $1, Electric Match $1, watching a thief on camera getting covered up...Priceless. Maybe I should do both, record it and put it on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrJruHq44I4
Check the link above to see what my cherry bombs do. Leave a comment! |

Don't know if school buses have been hit with this, but in my area, catalytic converters have been getting stolen recently. Meth-heads steal them and turn them in to metal recyclers. Also getting stolen are guard rails, copper wire, and anything made of metal that is not bolted down. |

The 2007+ model emissions engines are going to have some theft issues in the future I'm sure. The particulate filter is full of precious metals that are worth a good deal of money as stolen goods. Replacement cost is north of $5,000 so it could be a VERY big problem if it catches on. |

Claymore mines are an effective deterrent. |
If it doesn't fit, FORCE it. If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway. Pullin' wrenches for 45 years. |

Not sure if they still have it but Panosonic had a video camera a while back with a built in motion sensor, great for security purposes. |

Excuse me? As a Viet Nam veteran trained in defensive techniques, the claymore is a very effective deterrant.
Well, maybe it isn't applicable to today's schoolyard security but ya gotta admit, the battery theft would stop.
Of course, a little body repair might be necessary in the aftermath............. |
