What is the recommended oil for the newer 466e engines? Also, what is the recommended service intervals for the fuel and oil filters, especialy the new centrifugal filters?

15W-40 unless you operate below 20F(then they recommend 10W30). IH has 15K, 6mos, 550 hours for the oil; whichever comes first. 30K, 12 mos, 1,100 hours for Changing fuel filter and cleaning strainer.

That was for the '06 emission DT, not the 2007 which I don't have.

2007 has similar requirements, but different spec oil. The best oil from most manufacturers will meet the new spec. It has a lower TBN, in most cases and will require some monitoring, in my opinion, before we are comfortable with the change intervals. We won't have any "new spec' engines until next year, since our current order was ahead of timelines required.

In my area I have started to see Chevron Delo 400 LE 15-40 for the low-emission engines.

For "year-round" use in the Northern climates where you see temperatures below 20*F, the ONLY oil weight you can use is 5W-40, and this is only available in synthetics right now. Above 20*F, 15W-40 is the "preferred" oil weight.

2006 and OLDER engines can use API "CI-4" oils, but 2007 and NEWER engines MUST USE API "CJ-4" oils. These newer CJ-4 oils CAN be used in older engines operating on ULSD at the standard oil drain intervals. If the older engine is using LSD, then the drain interval MUST be reduced by 50%.

The easiest way I have to keep this straight is: Any engine using ULSD NEEDS API CJ-4, and oil drains are at the standard intervals. Any engines using a mix of LSD/CJ-4 reduce interval by 50%.

DO NOT use API CI-4 oils in an engine requiring ULSD (any 2007 or newer).

If you want customer service, you NEED an International!

Thought I'd bring this up again seeings how I don't know much about oil...

For the new MBE engines that require ULSD (not that we can get LSD anymore), am I correct in saying that Shell Rotella 15W40 is not acceptable? What oil is recommended?

I have a new bottle of Rotella T 15w40 in my hand.
It says it meets requirements for Mercedes -Benz 228.3 , Caterpillar ECF-3,ECF-1 , Cummins CES 20081 .
May be suitable for some LSD or ULSD, see manufactures recommendations.
