Bus vandalism 'disgusting'
By D. Craig MacCormack/ Daily News Staff
Saturday, December 2, 2006
FRAMINGHAM, MASS -- Two Framingham public school buses were kept from their normal runs yesterday after officials discovered them scratched up and one bore the message "white power," police said. Schools Superintendent Christopher Martes called the message "disgusting" and the act "troubling." "You're concerned when you see someone do something like that," he said. Officials at the bus yard at 185 Fountain St. found both buses scratched yesterday morning, said Lt. Paul Shastany. The wires connecting the "Stop" sign on the front of one of the buses was broken, and the other bus had the hateful message on the side, he said. They called the police to report the damage partly to see if it starts a trend and partly for insurance coverage purposes, said Martes. "Obviously we want to find out who did this and arrest them for what they did," said Shastany. "Their agenda is obviously offensive to us and to anyone who might see it." There were no witnesses to the vandalism, said Shastany, and no suspects. Police will make extra checks of the bus yard, he said, and anyone with information on the damage should call Framingham Police at 508-872-1212. Martes said he hasn't heard any clues about the culprits, but said word could filter out over the next several days. He expects the school resource officers to mine for information too, he said. "We just keep our ears open," said Martes. "Sometimes, kids talk."
