In this month's issue of my district's newsletter is the following story:

"On Friday, February 11,2005, Gunston Elementary School celebrated it's 50th birthday with a party for all students, former students, teachers and principals, and for one special guest. Area I driver, XXXX XXXXXX*, was honored for having driven Gunston students since the school opened-that's 50 years of driving for one school.

XXXX reports that in his first eight years, he shared driving responsibilities with another driver as a substitute, so our records don't show him as a regular driver until January, 1963-42 years ago.

Our congratulations to a remarkable man and our thanks for 50 years of safe driving!

* didn't want to use the guy's name without permission.

Is he still working? 25 years is the longest time I have heard from a driver at Navy Elementary

bus 1980, a 2008 IC RE 300 for Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax, Virginia.

Yep, he's still driving. I saw him at the county wide in-service meeting the other day. He looks like he could do another 20 years, easy!

He must TRULY appreciate that IC RE (or actually even a Wayne Ford, if he has one) that he's driving! Imagine all the buses he's gone through in 50 years?! He probably started on a 1940 or 50 something.
