Ok I haven't seen this being posted but is anyone but me having problems with the DEF tank sensor going bad derating def gauge pointing straight down. We have 10 2017 buses and every one has had the sendor replaced up to 5 or 6 times our dealer has been great on replacing them. The latest updated sensor is supposed to be upgraded to a lazer sensor but even them are having problems. The other buses are not having problems just the 17's. Thanks |

We have (121) 16's, (93) 17's, and (30) 18's. We have one of IC's mobile techs here most all the time doing nothing but warranty work. I know he's been doing some kind of modification to the DEF tanks on the newer ones. I'll try to remember to ask him exactly what he's doing. |

the DEF QLS sensors are a known problem with 2017 & some 2018 Internationals. at one point last summer, I was told that 30,000 IH trucks were down at one time nationwide- all with this issue. Personally here is what I have: 2017- 8 DEF QLS sensors (7 last year, 1 this year.) Currently at 30,000 miles 2017- 7 DEF QLS Sensors (6 last year, 1 this year.) Currently at 21,000 miles 2018- 1 DEF QLS sesnor. curently at 30,000 miles 2018- 1 DEF QLS Sensor. Currenlty at 12,000 miles My three 2016's have had no issues with this at all, and it appears to be the exact same setup as the 2017's.
IH knows there is an issue. At one point, we were told the issue was a heater control valve for the DEF QLS was installed backwards (allowing how coolant to run through the sensor all the time, not just when it is cold out,) but that doesn't seem to be the current thought process anymore- as I fixed that on my two 2017's, and the issue has happened since.
They have upgraded the sensor, but I was told I had the new sensors in at the end of last year, and if so- those have failed, too.
So far, my 2019's havent had any issues- but I've only had them for a week :D |

Alright. I talked to our "in-house" IC tech. He said that the problem is that the DEF "bubbles" in the tank and the bubbles settle around the photo eye in the original sensor. They are replacing them with a new sending unit that has a sensor that does not use the eye, part #4097724C91. He says he hasn't had any problems with the new units. |

That would be the laser sensor if what im being told is correct and they do fail after a time at least with my buses. |
