I've tried UltraLED replacement bulbs in 194 and 1156 configurations. The bright white LED's in my opinion don't work well behind a colored lens. They give the amber lights a greenish tint and aren't very bright behind a red lens. I moved the 194's into my C2 plate lights and they work great until corrosion sets in and then they flicker and die out. However I love the UltraLED drop in units for the stop signs, I've installed several sets over the last 7 years and haven't had one go out yet.
I buy most of my LED lighting from TAC bus and Unity bus parts.com |

i have added 3 different brightness levels to the interior lights to see which i like best. i like the brightest one the best, makes it like daytime in the rear of the bus. the best would be to put them on a dimmer because when they are switched on at night the sudden change is blinding. sure makes it easy for the kids to find everything when we return late at night. does anybody know if leds can be used with a dimmer? |

Yes, LEDs can be used, but once the voltage drops below the threshold that switches the LED on, say 9 volts, it will turn itself off. Remember what an LED is. Diode. Just like inside an alternator, it just happens to give off light. They have been around since the 1970's, just not in automotive use until recently. If I'm not mistaken, they are one of the accidental inventions. Like rubber vulcanization. |

We have retrofitted about half of our fleet with the SA1000 stop arm kits and wired them for strobe. I like them because it eliminates some wires running through the body to the outside, which was one of the biggest issues we saw with stop arms; one set of wires would start to break at the hinge point. I also like them because they are bright. Drivers like them because they have noticed a big drop in stop arm runners.
@Buster133: could you give a part number on what you are using on your stop arms? They have cut us off for now on retrofitting with the entire kit, so a cheaper alternative would be nice.
Any other info you guys have on any other bulbs like the 194s 1156s and so on would be great. I see a lot of problems with dome lights turning black or silver over time and they get very dim. |

Sorry it took so long for a reply they come in amber and white! Both cost 2.79$ a piece! They do not carry a red version yet!

I was not positive on the color as an older mechanic ordered them long ago so I emailed them!
The part number is 194A (FOR THE AMBER)

You should put in a red LED if going behind a red lens, amber LED if going behind an amber lens to be most effective and keep the colour you need. |
