what do you guys make of the dt466e loosing oil pressure once hot at operating temperature? when first started its at 45 - 50psi then once it's hot its showing 5 psi and engine light starts to come on with audible warning.should I be looking for a regulator stuck open in the front cover? or something else? |

sounds like a bearing issue once the oil warms up and thins out |

I've got a 98 466E doing much the same thing- only not down to 5psi. Mine is running about 12psi when hot, but starts off low when cold too- about 30psi.
my engine has 76,000 miles on it and is just under 3 years old. I replaced the IPR (it was starting to leak oil anyway,) and the oil pressure sender. No real help.
If I figure mine out, I'll let ya know. :) |

Not trying to be a wise a**, but how long since the last oil change? Possible fuel dilution? |

Did you hook up an old fashioned mechanical gauge to verify you have low oil pressure and not a just bad sensor? |

I agree the mechanical gauge is the first step in knowing if it really suffers from low oil pressure |

Followed by an oil sample and cutting open the oil filter.

If it really is loosing pressure warm, we had one that the pick-up tube bolts were loosening up. It had over 100K miles on it and did not ever know that anyone had been inside it. Good luck. |

Think I have mine figured out:
After swapping out the oil pressure sender- The dash gauge was reading ok- but the scan tool (Genesys Evo 5.0) was reading about 1/2 of what the dash gauge said, and it didn't matter if hot or cold, it read half what the dash said.
Looks like (on my truck anyeay- 1998 IHC 4700- DT466e) the dash gauge is a direct feed off the oil pressure sender, and the data link hookup comes off of the ECM- so I have a wiring/electrical issue either in the ECM, or between the ECM and data link. Mechanical gauge verified the dash gauge reading.
hope this helps someone. lol :) |
