Anyone out there smoking thru rear brake linings fast on your C2 model buses? We have had some wear out the linings in 6000 miles. Shoes are Meritor 301.

Our front brakes also do little work. Most front brake jobs are due to rust jacking.

Our worst drivers can trash a set in 30,000 miles, are your routes downhill both way's?
If these units are cummins you can retro-fit them for engine brakes,a switch and reprogramming from both frtlner 1st and then cummins are all you need. We recieved some new units with the brake and then refit 10 older units ourselves.

Were inner city routes 4 tier routes and they drive them like trash trucks. The shoes I started getting this year even have a waste management logo on the sides see how these last....

Perfectly flat here. 60k rear, fronts 150K + and still the originals. IC and Bluebird and Thomas.

If you can't handle the answer, don't ask the question

We found the cause of excessive rear brake wear on our IC 2010 and newer buses. The traction control is applying the rear brakes at any sign of tire slippage. The traction control cannot be shut off. If you turn on the "MUD/SNOW" switch the traction control will be less sensitive. We have told our drivers to operate with the switch on. It has made a world of difference to rear brake life.

TO answer the question of how the C2 bus brakes are wearing our C2 air brake rears seem to be getting full of dirt and brake dust and wearing out the right lower pad at a premature rate. The drums are also worn to the limits on the first brake job . 30000 to 40000 miles.
