I am back again with something I noticed today and last week . I am used to working on conventional Internationals . The district I am working for has a few TC 2000 s . Well one TC I drove you can be driving along and watch the Volt guage drop and the amp guage go up .Then it goes back to normal . Today while building air up on another TC . I was watching the headligts and I heard a click and they dimmed . Then when it happened again the volts dropped and the amps went up . Is this normal ? Could both buses have bad alternators ? Both buses have Cummins in them .Thanks
Chances are that the Cummins that was "building air" was warming up and the click you heard was the solenoid engaging the intake grid heater for a bit, that would explain dimming headlights, voltage drop and amps going up. Never known the grid heater to come on while "driving along" but voltage drop and amps going up indicates a high current draw. I don't believe your alternators are at fault.
